Folding@Home

By now, everyone has heard of this virus thing going around, right? Folding@Home is a research project that aims to better understand diseases like COVID-19 so that we can create a cure for them. The best thing about it is you can help.

F@H runs on your computer, using your CPU and GPU to do all sorts of number crunching to “fold” proteins, which is the basis for understanding and creating cures for these diseases. You download the F@H client, create an identity for yourself, of course join our team (238325), change to “medium” folding power (otherwise it doesn’t use your GPU), and it works in the background. You can pause as necessary, but if you’re not playing a game, it usually doesn’t hamper your ability to use your computer.

So far out of 112,367 teams, we’re at rank 1480! Join up and feel good about contributing to science! The F@H project has already made some good discoveries about how the virus interacts and binds to human cells. The Twitter post talking about it is obviously easier to read and understand, but they have a highly technical blog post about it too if you need some light bedtime reading.

Questions about F@H? We have a channel in Discord for that.
