We’re working on putting together some posts about our names and how they came to be. Some of our names may be obvious if you know us, and others…well…let’s just say they’re a little obscure. For now, what better name to start with than the biggest name of them all – The League of Extraordinarily Okay Gamers.
I’ll save you the details of how the founders all met and formed a group. That’s for another involved post that goes into a spider web of acquaintances and one rando. After we had been playing together for a while, we decided we should come up with a name for ourselves. There wasn’t really a reason for this at the time besides the resident nerd wanting to set up a website at some point (yours truly, CombFiltered). Many of the first names were forced attempts using the current games we were playing – Destiny, Pokemon Go, and ARK: Survival Evolved (wow we’ve been playing that one for a long time). Names like Go Dark (Go = Pokemon Go, D = Destiny, ark = ARK: Survival Evolved) were thrown out along with many others, but none really stuck. They were just too forced and wouldn’t really represent us long term.
Out of the blue during discussion (I think over texting at the time), a few similar options were thrown out. We realized that one constant would never change – we weren’t awful gamers, but we certainly weren’t great. What’s the middle of the two? Obviously it’s Extraordinarily Okay. As soon as the name The League of Extraordinarily Okay Gamers was proposed, we all knew we had a winner.
Henceforth, we have always been known by one name – The League of Extraordinarily Okay Gamers. Unless that doesn’t fit in whatever name field it needs to go in, then it gets shortened by some means. Or just LXOG.
