What I Wish I Knew Before Playing Starfield

I went into Starfield basically blind. I barely watched any of the pre-release content on it, so I knew very little about the game. I knew it was a space RPG, had around 1000 planets, some curated and some not, and that I would play it for basically eternity.

That said, there are a few things that I wish I knew beforehand, and I would have saved a little (or a lot of time) by knowing some of these things right as I started. So here’s my hat in the ring for this topic, spoiler free and mechanic-heavy.

Ethereum Mining: Primer

I’ve done a fair bit of research on crypto over the past year or so, trying to figure out what it’s all about. Details of all that may come in another set of blog posts, but I’m still trying to wrap my head around it all. One of my most recent projects, however, is looking into mining Ethereum.

Believe me, I completely understand that crypto has an extremely high barrier to entry because of knowledge gaps and accessibility issues. I’ve experienced this firsthand. I’m going to attempt to bridge some of those gaps here for anyone who happens to find themselves on our blog. If I tried to do too much in one post though, no one would read it.

Starting out, I’m just going to cover the very basics needed to start mining Ethereum. It may seems like a weird starting place. Sorry for that. But it’s where I am in this grand journey right now. That and it was the first topic that solidly lent itself to a blog post in talking with friends about it.

So come along for our first crypto ride! Learn with me about Ethereum mining.

The Shop is Open for Business

We are incredibly excited to announce the grand opening of the LXOG shop! The shop can be found in the header – just look for “Shop” and click the link.

Inside you’ll find all sorts of LXOG gear. Mugs, shirts, stickers, masks, and the like. Better yet, there are versions of the shirts that are personalized! With these, be sure to hit the “Personalize Design” button right below “Add to cart,” otherwise you will literally get a shirt that says “Your Gamertag Here”.

Poke around the shop, browse a bit, and pick up your favorite items.

Technically Okay: Power Supplies

You’re perusing Newegg looking for a power supply, wondering which one to get. You can get anything between $20 and seemingly $2000. Why? What’s the difference between them? What do you need and how do you decide? There are so many fine points to power supplies, and while you could probably write a thesis on what makes a good power supply, we’re going to attempt to cover the big points you’ll need to know so you can find what you need.

Technically Okay: SSDs

“I need a new SSD for my computer, which one should I get?” This can seem like a daunting question, but let’s break it down to a few easy questions and get you a good answer or two. There are a lot of options out there at a range of price points. Hopefully this will guide you enough to make an informed decision and not pay too much or get a drive you’ll regret.

Technically Okay: Ultrawide monitors

For many gamers, ultrawide monitors have been too expensive. That’s changing, thanks to a new Samsung LCD panel. There are only a small handful of actual LCD glass manufacturers in the world, and every display (TV or monitor) manufacturer buys these panels and puts their own electronics behind them. Samsung has recently released a new panel that manufacturers can incorporate into their monitor designs, and the specs are just killer for the price.

Technically Okay

Another day, another made up name for a new spot. First “On & Piqued,” now “Technically Okay.” What or who is Technically Okay? Everything. But for the purposes of this series/spot/segment/whatever you want to call it, we’ll be taking a bit of time to highlight some form of tech that we deem to be Extraordinarily Okay in an actually great way.

This might come at you in the form of a deal on something and discuss why it’s the piece you want, a new technology or hardware that we think is going to make a big impact, some announcement or trailer that’s made a big splash, or just a new company doing things right.

Regardless, watch out for Technically Okay posts in the future. They might just guide you in the right direction for your next tech purchase.

Streaming setup with Mixer

I’ve had a few questions about how to get set up with streaming to Mixer, so I’m creating this guide to help get you started. This certainly isn’t going to be an exhaustive guide, as there’s way too much to cover. I’m hopeful that this will at least get you up and going for something like playing Jackbox Party games with your friends during COVID lockdowns. I know this seems like a lot for a basic setup, but this isn’t exactly easy. It was until Microsoft removed Mixer streaming from the Game Bar built into Windows. If you have questions, feel free to hit me (CombFiltered) up on our Discord, and I’ll try to help work through your scenario as much as possible. I’m certainly no expert, but I’ve worked with OBS enough to know my way around the basics.
